I do hope young people are sufficiently emotionally distanced from the Cold War to see the truth about our current situation: that it is the direct result of the imperialist policies of previous generations. Overhere, this confrontation was hardly inevitable. Take a look at the Old Testament, and see that by your logic, we ought to be in a continual confrontation with Jewish and other Israeli forces. The Jews are quite capable of recognizing that the Old Testament requirement to destroy pagan altars, exterminate and/or enslave non-Jawehists, and generally occupy the Holy Land, were requirements of a previous era. Why not Muslims? Muhammed was friendly to Jews and Christians, after all... How exactly do we get people to see this? Well, we are certainly helping their recruitment numbers, however don't be fooled into thinking this confrontation wasn't inevitable. Without getting too deep into Islamic principles, I will just say that there is a deep seated hatred and intolerance at the heart of the dogma. This is not to say that all Moslems share the same interpretations of their dogma but it is there nevertheless. It took at least 5 years of planning for the 9/11 attacks..... Even the mainstream media was questioning the official story up until today's second round of attacks. Yes we commit evil on the middle east, and yes we are reaping what we sow, I just feel the source of much of the terrorism is controlled and directed much closer to home.
